By Teddy Foster An interesting match up will take place on the undercard of tonight's main event featuring "Dynamic" Dean Cornell against former middleweight champion Darek "Mili" Zaloga. The contest will see one of the biggest gaps in size and power between two men possibly in the history of the division. 7ft tall giant Cornell will enter the ring tonight at 241lbs, the heaviest he has ever been, while Zaloga in stark contrast will enter the ring giving away a whopping 78lbs and well over a foot in height to his opponent leading to a classic David and Goliath style contest. The pluky Zaloga, who has never been stopped at any weight, will have his work cut out for him tonight against Cornell who is in good form since he made his long awaited return to boxing with a 1st round KO of Scott Belilli followed by an impressive 5th round KO win over strong fringe contender Akebono. At the joint press conference Cornell said of the contest that "This is going to be the easiest payday of my career, Darek will learn tonight that size matters, he will struggle to go the distance with me, hell the guy is gonna need a ladder just to reach my chest, I'm going to send him back down to the middles tonight, where he belongs".

Posts: 861 (03/15/04 11:32:20) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	LIP JUNIOR DROPS LYNCH AFTER BACK AND FORTH FIGHT WINS BY A KO IN THE 11TH AFTER BEING DOWN HIMSELF Lip connects with the KO punch Well Lip Junior sure had a fight on his hands and he ended the show in the 11th round. The underdog Lynch won the first part of the fight but Lip started to slip the jab and get inside firing power shots to his body. Going into the 11th the score was 95-95 twice and 97-95 for Lip. Lynch was hit with 2 uppercuts at the beggining of the 11th round, but Lynch responded with a huge uppercut of his own to the body that moved lip across the ring into the ropes. But Lip responded with a huge shot to Lynch that stunned him. After somehow staying on his feet Lynch launched a huge left hook that put Lip on the canvas. Lip took the standing 8 count and got up. Smelling blood Lynch immediatly lunged with a jab and got caught with an uppercut that sent him down for the count. Lip improves to 18-11 and Lynch drops to 6-2.

I am at the lightest weight of my career... WEBL What shouldnt you be gaining weight MENNEN I plan to after this fight I need extra speed to counter McCall. WEBL What do you anticipate your weight will be MENNEN Around 190-192 Its not that big of a difference. At this weight I think I can dance and move better then I could at 195 which I am going to need to do to win this fight. WEBL What is your fight plan. MENNEN Im just not going to let him hit me lets leave it at that WEBL What do you see in your future MENNEN After I beat McCall I will gradualy put on some weight. I am a very young fighter, I still need to fill out. I think that an eventual weight of slightly over 200lbs is what I am aiming for. I dont plan to defend the title next week as I dont believe that there is anyone who is qualified. I want a bum next week regardless of the outcome. I have had 4 real fights in a row. Thats something only top level fighters seem to do these days. WEBL If you keep winning when will you ask for a title shot. MENNEN I really have not decided. I am leaning towards taking one early. I want to be able to say that I did fight for the title regardless of the outcome. I will eventualy be a Mandatory for it but I think my style could pose a challenge to anyone. I was only 5-0 when I beat Zaloga... WEBL Hasnt Zaloga been exposed though in your opinion. MENNEN Listen the guy fought for the title. He was doin somethin right. By Teddy Foster After several months of negotiations WeBL Heavyweight Champion Jamal ONeil and WeBL #1 ranked contender Steve Hardwick have finally agreed terms and are expected to officially sign to fight each other within the next 24hours. Both camps were at loggerheads over Hardwicks demands for a rematch with Gellar, sources close to Hardwick believe he was on the brink of retirement after walking out on talks held between representatives of the two men. Hardwick had even organised a press conference to be held in Manchester at which some believe he was set to announce his official retirement. However, at the 11th hour HIPS Promotions, desperate to get Hardwick into the ring with Jamal, made a last ditch attempt to appease Hardwick by offering the rematch he wants with Gellar should he defeat Jamal. A confident Hardwick, who has treated Jamal with nothing short of contempt since his title win over Glimmerman, warmed to the offer and has agreed provisional terms to fight the newly crowned champion. The fight will be telecast live on PPV and will be the biggest money spinning bout in boxing history. HIPS Promotions will be holding a joint press conference with Raging Bulls Promotions tomorrow at 5pm Eastern time where it is expected that the fight will be signed, both Hardwick and ONeil will be present.

Posts: 861 (03/16/04 17:22:28) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Mike Mennen Has Suprise At Open Session Pavel Sadelski North American Heavyweight Champion Mike Mennen held an open training session for the media today ,Tuesday March 16, at Appolo Creed's Boxing School in Jersey City New Jersey. Mennen really looked slim during this session. Mennen did the usual jump roped , heavy bag, speed bag. He then fought 2 sparring sessions with George McCabe and the powerful Hepher Wolff. Then here was the big news. Former Champion Lennox Lewis came and he and Mike Mennen sparred a full 12 rounds. Lennox told the press that he was acting like a power puncher during the sparring contest. It was pretty entertaining watching the former champ mix it with a new guy but all in all the session was simply Mennen avoiding punches. Mennen was very impressive though. Once thought as being elusive this tricky south paw looked unhittable.

Its time for the weigh in for Mike Mennen and Salvador McCall, a press conference will be following shortly after the fighters get on the scales. This is a very interesting match up, the boxer against the puncher, McCall has 6 KO's in 6 fights while Mennen has only 1 KO but has shown slickness and has faced much better competition. Mennen had former champion Lennox Lewis spar with him recently.... it appears that the challenger Salvador McCall is ready to take the scales The Sand Man weighed in at a strong 236 lbs. In his last fight a tune-up for this one he knocked out Josh Sclong in the 6th round. His previous fight was his biggest win. In a great night for WeBl 2 undefeated prospects met and McCall knocked out Rudy Metropolis of Donny's Gym. Mike Mennen is now aproaching the scale Wow Mennen really looks slim hes taking the scale. Double M weighs in at a trim 192lbs this is the lightest weight of his career. Mennens promoter Apollo Creed has taken the mic. By Teddy Foster ringside in Las Vegas Heavyweight Champion Jamal ONeil has just ended Steve Hardwicks dream of finally lifting the heavyweight title that has eluded him his entire career. Hardwick started well enough with a high work rate boxing behind his jab to take the first two rounds by a wide margin, the third was a much closer affair as the champion gradually applied a little more pressure to take a close third round. The fourth round saw the challenger open up in a bid to land something big on the champion and end the contest, unfortunately for Hardwick the complete opposite happened as he was struck by a big left hook just before the two minute mark, the New Yorker on this rare occasion couldnt beat the count. A tearful Hardwick gave this interview only minutes after the contest ended. WeBL: Steve, what happened in the 4th round? You seemed in control at that point, all the judges had you ahead on the scorecards. Steve: Well, it was going to be difficult to continue boxing at that kind of tempo, I wasnt going to be able to go the full twelve, he was starting to shift some big shots in the third and I had to mix it up a bit more, I thought I could land something big on him but he was too elusive. He caught me with a great shot, one of the biggest shots I have taken in a while, next thing I really recall was my trainer in the ring, Jamal running around with his arms raised, I know Id been sparked at that point. WeBL: Do you think you could have done anything differently tonight? Steve: I dont know, I dont think so, hes a great champion, hell not be easily beaten. Maybe on another night I could have opened him up a bit more and manage to land with something big, tonight was his night though, he was the better man tonight. Hes pretty fast and elusive, I was always going to have to work extra hard to beat him. WeBL: Of the champions that you have fought, where do you place him now after tonight? Steve: Hes good, hes dam fast, definitely the fastest guy Ive ever faced, it would be interesting to see him fight Stonehouse again, I think hed possibly struggle against a fighter as strong as Stonehouse, he fairs good against all the rest though, he can hold his own thats for sure. WeBL: Steve, last year going into the Engaman fight you said that you had two to three fights left in you, tonight has been your third fight since making that statement, has anything changed? Steve: Well, tonight would be very difficult to comeback from, Im 36 years of age now, Ive had a long and fruitful career and getting up at 5am every morning just isnt as easy as it was back in the day, one thing is for sure though, I would have creamed Gellar in the rematch and he knows it. I need to sit down and talk with my team and with my family, but Im pretty sure Im done with boxing now, you guys will hear something within the next few days. WeBL: Steve, good luck in the future. Jamal also gave this interview after the fight WEBL: congratulations jamal on the win JAMAL: thank you WEBL: would you rate this as the biggest win of your career? JAMAL: its up there bro despite my slagging of steve over the weeks he's a good fighter and definately deserved his shot my plan was to school him over the oipening rounds and punish him later but the oppurtunity arised and with my experience in the ring i learned it's best to take those oppurtunities when they arise WEBL: hardwick did seem to control the opening rounds, you seemed somewhat looking for a single shot in the opening part of the fight, what was your plan? JAMAL: i was trying to get his attention early, everytime hardwick was beaten it's come when he has been hurt in the opening rounds and he then gets on his bicycle and runs away and is easy to pick off, he opened up in the 4th and i knocked him out WEBL: whos next on your hit list? Former Heavyweight champion Frank "The Steamroller" Stonehouse makes his long awaited comeback March 29th, his first fight since being knocked out in 10 rounds by Glimmerman for the championship. Many thought Stonehouse had retired, after he showed up to the pre fight press conference in terrible shape, then looked unmotivated and uncharacteristically passive in the ring, and then was not seen since being knocked out and lead away from the ring without word. At the recent Steve Hardwick-Jamal O'Neill fight, Stonehouse was seen in the front row watching the fight. Today at a local Los Angeles gym, Frank Stonehouse was seen entering, but traied behind closed doors, he then answered questions about his long awaited comeback. His opponent is yet to be announced, but apparently Twinkletoes, Lopez McDougal and Harry Lane are possibilities for the comeback next week, also the site is yet to be announced. Webl- Frank, good to see you, how are you feeling??? Frank- Great man, Ive been training for 2-3 weeks already, I've been in the gym since before Jamal O'Neill took over as champion, I still feel a little rusty, but I should shake that off!!! Webl- What are you weighing in at??? Frank- 98-100 kilo at the moment, my fighting weight is 92 so I should be ready when I hit camp again, I'm looking to increase that to fighting at around 95 so I feel more comfortable, but I feel good at the moment, I'll be around 90-92 for the fight!!! Webl- I have to ask, what happened against Glimmerman??? Frank- I dont mean to make excuses, but I was in very poor condition for the fight, I was no longer interested in fighting and didnt prepare myself for a good fighter in Glimmerman!!! Webl- What has made you interested in the fight game now??? Frank- I'm haviung a few fights to see if I still have it left, I will fight every 3-4 weeks, increasing my competition gradually, we were looking at Lopez McDougal for my comeback, but he has been out of the ring for a while so Arse will try and get in touch with Treelo to get this fight signed in the future, and we're pretty sure it's Harry Lane for my comeback, and Twinkletoes is another option!!! Frank- I think Hardwick should of backed himself and tried to box Jamal, Jamal never fights with a good jab in his face, he makes mistakes, Steve just needed to back himself, I felt bad for him when he lost, he deserved to be champion, he had a good career, and I would advise him to retire now with his health, or peraps fight Engaman again and show everyone he can still beat a live opponent, credit to Jamal though, he is an awesome fighter!!! By Teddy Foster Gleaming Steve Hardwick has confirmed rumours by officially announcing his retirement from professional boxing. Hardwick, who kept the gathered press and media waiting for some 40 minutes before finally arriving at the conference which was held in the conference room at Manchesters Midland Hotel, delivered the following statement. Ladies and gentleman, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided to officially retire from the sport of boxing. I am lucky to have had a fantastic career, I have made millions from the sweet science and still have my health, I have challenged for the world title on three occasions, on two of those occasions the greatest fighter ever to grace the square ring was stood in between me and the belt, on the third and most recent occasion, one of the rising stars and, I believe, next dominant champion stood in my path. I have been two times recipient of Fight of the Year in 2002 and 2003 and can say with confidence that I have provided the fans and you guys in the media some of the most entertaining fights in the history of the sport. Now that I have quit boxing, my time will be divided three ways. First, I will be taking up a full time coaching position at the Raging Bulls gym where I will be working specifically with Donovan Judd. Secondly, I will be looking to do some work in television, hopefully taking up commentary positions from time to time. Finally, I would like to announce the creation of The Stewie Griffen Memorial Fund. As many of you know, Stewie tragically lost his life in the ring on his pro debut against Peter Toast, Im creating this non-profit-making organisation to help aid those families of boxers who have lost their lives and indeed boxers who have suffered life altering injuries as a consequence of boxing. Before I go, I would just like to say a special thank you to my long time coach and friend Jake La Motta, who stood by me when everyone doubted me, and made me the fighter that I eventually became. Thank you all for your time The news will come as a disappointment to fans of Hardwick who has been one of the most entertaining fighters in recent history. His departure will also create a void in the upper echelons of the heavyweight division that is in desperate need of the sparkle that Hardwick frequently provided. Hardwick leaves behind him an impressive record, of 27 wins with 14 coming by way of knockout and 9 losses, all of which came against either current or former heavyweight champions of the world, his early career losses to both Gellar and Ruas would surely have been avenged had he been given the opportunity to fight either man again. He contested the heavyweight title on no less than three occasions, two times against Frank Stonehouse, the first an explosive encounter which saw Hardwick come only 2 seconds away from KOing Stonehouse, the second a far more one-sided affair with Stonehouse dropping Hardwick for the 10 count in round 10 after demonstrating his ability to box and beat Hardwick at his own game, the fight would go onto be voted 2003 Fight of the Year. The third and final title fight came this weekend just passed against newly crowned champion Jamal ONeil where he would be KOd in round 4 whilst ahead on all scorecards. Hardwick also fought a memorable and tough 5 fight series against former heavyweight champion Pugilist Specialist, many observers felt that Specialist did not deserve the fourth fight after Hardwick beat the Toronto man soundly in the two previous fights. He would go onto notch up wins against highly ranked contender Freddy Jones and what will probably be remembered as his crowning achievement, the six round destruction of 3 times heavyweight champion and all-time great, Engaman. However, what Hardwick will be most remembered for will be his part in one of the most sensational fights in the history of the sport, his 12 round decision win over John Scully. Hardwick would endure one of the most brutal early round assaults ever seen in the ring at the hands of The Bully getting sent to the canvas on no less than three occasions, only to get up and box his way to a comfortable lead relying on the movement and hard counterpunching that would become hallmarks of his game. However, a tired and panting Scully pulled out all the stops in the 12th round to send an equally tired Hardwick to the canvas for the 4th time only to see the New Yorker rise to his feet yet again to take an extremely close unanimous decision. The fight was voted 2002 Fight of the Year and instantly won the adoration of many ordinary fans who took Hardwick to their hearts. One of the all-time greats Hardwick is not, but his place within the all-time P4P top 10 should just about be assured for the immediate future. Despite Hardwicks retirement, bookies are quoting odds of 7-2 that he will be back in the ring within 2 years. Regardless of this WeBL wishes Steve Hardwick happiness in his retirement.

Rocco Siffredi may be getting ready to get back in the ring for the first time in 2004. He currently trains hard under guidance of former heavyweight star Black Monstercock. The 40-year-old Siffredi took part in 29 fights and holds a 9-19-1 record with 8 knockouts. He knocked out highly touted Lopez McDougal in one round (lost the rematch, though) and drew with decent Terror Australis. Rocco also outpointed two-time title challenger Mike Tyson. After his previous bout, Siffredi stated that it was time to make more movies and spend more time with hot chicks. He now returns to the ring in which he will again be recognized as a dangerous journeyman.

Frank- Great, I'm ready, Lane wont know what hit him, I'm going to give him a beating I usually save for guys I really dont like, I want everyone to know that I'm back!!!
